Safety improvements – Relay for hot bed

Today, I am going to show you a new improvement for G2S printer, installing a mechanic relay for the hot bed.

What is a relay?

I am going to put here the Wikipedia definition:

“A relay is an electrically operated switch”

Why I need a relay for the hot bed?

The problem is that the hot bed needs a lot of electrical intensity in order to get warmer, so this intesity can damage the electronic components of the motherboard and sometimes get fire.

With the relay we put this electrical intensity trough the relay instead the motherboard, as an advantage the hot bed gets warmer quickly.

I get the idea from “The Maker 3DP”, you can follow his YouTube channel here.

Where did you bought it?

I bought it by internet on a Granada shop.

Here you find the relay page on the shop.

Ok, how must I connect the relay?

In the relay the connectors are numbered, and the connections are below:

  • The connector 30 -> It is connected to the positive of the hot bed.
  • Connector 87 -> Connected to a 12V positive of the power adapter, be careful and not connect it to 220V.
  • Connector 85 ->Connected to the negative connector of the motherboard that was previously connected with the negative of the hot bed.
  • Connector 86 -> Connected to the positive connector of the motherboard that was previously connected with the negative of the hot bed.
  • Negative of the hotbed, directly to a 12V negative of the power adapter.

Very important: Check voltage with a multimeter.

Do you have a photo of the final result?

Of course, you can see it here.
